480V Three-Phase Power Distribution for Overhead Door Air Curtain System
Collins Electrical was selected to assist with a major electrical system expansion at an Amazon Distribution Center in Greece, New York. This project involved installing a portion of the facility’s new power distribution infrastructure to support sixteen overhead door air curtains throughout the warehouse.
While this panel represents only one section of the completed installation, it highlights the level of planning, coordination, and craftsmanship required when working within an active industrial and logistics environment.
Project Scope
The facility required new electrical infrastructure capable of supplying power to sixteen commercial-grade air curtain units installed above loading dock doors. Air curtains play a critical role in distribution facilities by helping maintain interior temperatures, improving energy efficiency, reducing dust infiltration, and minimizing the entry of insects and airborne contaminants.
To support the new equipment, Collins Electrical installed 480-volt three-phase power distribution throughout the facility. The project included routing conduit, installing distribution equipment, pulling conductors, terminating circuits, and integrating the new systems into the building’s existing electrical infrastructure.
Power Distribution Installation
The installation required careful planning to accommodate multiple air curtain locations throughout the warehouse while maintaining proper load distribution and electrical system reliability.
Key components of the project included:
- Installation of new 480V three-phase distribution circuits
- Electrical panel installation and circuit distribution
- EMT conduit routing and support systems
- Industrial-grade conductor installation and termination
- Circuit identification and labeling
- Coordination with facility operations and equipment installation teams
- Testing and verification of all installed circuits
All conduit runs were installed to provide a clean, organized appearance while maintaining accessibility for future maintenance and expansion.
Working Within an Active Distribution Facility
Performing electrical work inside a large distribution center requires attention to safety, logistics, and scheduling. Collins Electrical coordinated installation activities to minimize disruption to ongoing operations while maintaining compliance with all applicable electrical and workplace safety requirements.
Industrial facilities depend on reliable electrical systems to support day-to-day operations. Proper installation practices help ensure equipment performance, system reliability, and long-term serviceability.
Supporting Warehouse Climate Control
Overhead door air curtains are an important component in modern warehouse environments. By creating a controlled stream of air across open dock doors, these systems help reduce energy loss while improving comfort for employees working near loading and unloading areas.
The new electrical infrastructure provides dedicated power distribution to support the operation of all sixteen air curtain units throughout the facility.
Project Outcome
The completed installation successfully delivered the required 480V three-phase power distribution needed for the facility expansion. Through careful planning, professional installation practices, and attention to detail, Collins Electrical helped provide the electrical backbone necessary for reliable operation of the new air curtain system.
