Client: Roberts Wesleyan University
Location: North Chili, NY
Project type: Commercial outdoor electrical service
Completed: September 2026
The Project
Roberts Wesleyan University was building a new outdoor courtyard entertainment area and needed dependable power to support it. The space had to handle lighting, sound equipment, and event power while standing up to Western New York weather year-round. Collins Electrical designed and installed a dedicated outdoor power system to serve the courtyard.
What We Installed
We built a freestanding, weather-rated electrical installation on a raised, post-mounted backboard, keeping everything accessible for university facilities staff while protecting the equipment from ground moisture. The system includes:
- Heavy-duty service disconnect: an Eaton heavy-duty safety switch that provides a clearly labeled, lockable shutoff.
- Outdoor-rated panelboard: a weatherproof distribution panel feeding the circuits that serve the courtyard.
- Automated timer control: an Intermatic timer so courtyard lighting can run on a set schedule without manual switching.
- GFCI-protected outlets: a weatherproof in-use cover over GFCI receptacles, providing safe, convenient power for events and maintenance.
- Underground conduit runs: PVC conduit secured to a strut-mounted support rack, routing circuits underground to [lighting, outlets, and equipment] throughout the courtyard.
Built for Safety and the Long Haul
Outdoor commercial installations face rain, snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and heavy public use. We selected every component for outdoor duty, completed the installation to code, and passed inspection. The clean layout and labeled equipment make it simple for the university’s facilities team to operate and service the system for years to come.
The Result
Roberts Wesleyan now has a reliable, safe power source for its new courtyard, ready for concerts, campus gatherings, and community events.
